Virtual Information Sessions

Explore pharmacy and all that the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC)—the state’s only comprehensive academic health science center—has to offer by joining us for our interactive virtual information sessions!

Whether you’re just beginning to explore the pharmacy profession or are preparing to submit your application, these webinars are a great way to learn more about the field, receive tailored advice, and explore your options.

Upcoming Sessions:

Monday, October 13 at 12:00 PM – Admissions Overview & Student Life: Learn about our Doctor of Pharmacy program, life as a pharmacy student in Charleston, career opportunities in pharmacy, and receive helpful admissions and interview advice directly from our Admissions Team.

Monday, November 10 at 6:30 PM – Student Resources: Get practical guidance on financing your education from our Office of Student Financial Literacy, hear from current students about opportunities such as interprofessional collaboration, student organizations, peer mentoring, and wellness initiatives, and explore our housing portal and resources to support your move to Charleston.

Monday, December 8 at 6:30 PM – Early Assurance Program (EAP): Discover our competitive admission program designed for high school seniors interested in pursuing pharmacy through an accelerated pathway. You’ll also hear from current students who were once EAP scholars and learn about the wide range of career opportunities in pharmacy.

Student Mentors for Future Pharmacists (SMFP)


SMFP is a virtual program that aims to mentor high school and college students as they explore the vast career opportunities within pharmacy. Participation in the SMFP program is free and open to all high school and college-aged students.

What to Expect:

Guided Mentorship: When you join SMFP, you'll be paired with a dedicated mentor who is a current MUSC College of Pharmacy student. Your mentor will share invaluable insights and advice from their own experience pursuing pharmacy.

Engaging Seminars/Workshops: Through a series of engaging workshops, seminars, and professional development activities, you'll gain the skills and knowledge needed to stand out when applying to a graduate-level health professions program. These sessions will be held once a month on Saturday mornings from 10:00 am - 11:30 am EST.

Eligibility:

  • High school or college-aged students
  • An interest in pharmacy or a willingness to explore the field
  • Commitment to participating in virtual program sessions held one Saturday a month

Dates:

  • Program runs once a month January 2026 to April 2026 - exact dates will be released later. 
  • SMFP will be conducted entirely in a virtual format, ensuring accessibility for all students.
  • SMFP is open to all students.

Pharmacy Career Pathways Certificate Program

Created to assist students as they explore the multiple career paths of the pharmacy profession, the Pharmacy Career Path Certificate program can help you gauge how your unique interests and values can align with pharmacy. The program is self-paced, online, and complimentary for all prospective students.
Components of the program:
  • Complete the APhA's Career Pathways Evaluation Explore pharmacy career paths that target your interests
  • Forge connections with pharmacists by conducting interviews
  • Receive a certificate to enhance your pharmacy school application

Shadow a Pharmacist or a Student

Interested in shadowing a pharmacist at MUSC or learning more about a day in the life of a MUSC pharmacy student?

Shadowing opportunities are offered Monday - Friday and are based on availability of pharmacists and/or class schedule (depending on which shadow experience you are interested in).

In order to shadow a pharmacist, you must:

  • Provide health documentation to include current TB (within three months of your visit), immunization records, Covid-19 vaccination record, and flu vaccine.
  • Allow a month's notice before your anticipated shadow date
  • Wear professional business attire and act in a professional manner

The requirements to shadow a pharmacy student are more lenient but still requires a month's notice to schedule.

PharmDamentals

Student in the compounding labThe PharmDamentals program is specifically designed to engage high school students interested in healthcare. The program will provide a fundamental understanding of the pharmacy profession and introduce students to the many career options available.

Participants will interact with pharmacists representing a wide range of career opportunities, engage with MUSC College of Pharmacy students, tour campus, gain hands-on pharmacy experience in our compounding lab, and more.

The 2025 MUSC College of Pharmacy PharmDamentals program will take place in-person at the Medical University of South Carolina campus in Charleston, SC on Friday, July 25 from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Registration will close on Wednesday, July 2.
