Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

1.       Explain the need for face masks and social distancing to reduce the spread of COVID-19

2.       Describe the updated IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America) recommendations for the currently available therapeutic interventions to treat patients with COVID-19

3.       Describe the current status of COVID-19 vaccine development

4.       Describe the current guidelines for lipid lowing therapy and the potential use of both omega 3 fatty acids and bempedoic acid. Review the updated Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines and be able to recommend guideline-directed therapy for patients with asthma

Accreditation Statement

The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.           

This knowledge-based activity is accredited for 1 live contact hour (0.1 CEU) of continuing education for pharmacists.  To claim credit, participants must register, sign-in, and participate in the entire live activity, including all active learning and learning assessments.  No partial credit will be issued.  Participants must complete an online evaluation at http://cop.sc.learningexpressce.com within 30 days (providing their correct NABP e-Profile ID and month/day of birth) in order to ensure credit is reported to the NABP CPE Monitor.  Detailed instructions will be provided upon participating in the activity. The CPE Monitor will automatically reject all credit claimed and reported greater than 60 days from the date of participation. 

As part of our month-long celebration of American Pharmacists Month, the MUSC College of Pharmacy will provide 1 live contact hour of continuing education free to the first 100 pharmacists registered for the Zoom meeting.

Phil the Pill’s Virtual 5K

Tighten your laces, stretch your legs, and log your miles! Join Phil the Pill for Phil’s first 5k! 

Dean Hall has committed to completing 3.1 miles on the streets of downtown Charleston dressed as our very own Phil the Pill as part of LOWVELO's You do You initiative and to raise support for the MUSC College of Pharmacy. Alumni and friends are encouraged to create Facebook fundraisers to raise sponsorships in support of you walking, running, riding, rowing…moving a distance of 5K at some point during the month of October.  

All sponsorships for Phil the Pill’s 5K can be directed to either the MUSC College of Pharmacy or MUSC Hollings Cancer Center through you personal Facebook Fundraiser. 

Phil the Pill will complete his 5K by running around MUSC’s campus on Saturday, Oct. 24 . Anyone who beats Phil’s time will receive a branded MUSC College of Pharmacy Mask!  Phil the Pill’s time will be announced on Monday, Oct. 26, on social media.
