Shadow a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Student

Interested in shadowing a pharmacist at MUSC or learning more about a day in the life of a MUSC pharmacy student? Contact Madison Riley at rileymad@musc.edu. Shadowing opportunities are offered Monday - Friday and are based on availability of pharmacists and/or class schedule (depending on which shadow experience you are interested in). In order to shadow a pharmacist, you must:

  • Provide health documentation to include current TB (within three months of your visit), immunization records, Covid-19 vaccination record, and flu vaccine.
  • Allow a month's notice before your anticipated shadow date
  • Wear professional business attire and act in a professional manner

The requirements to shadow a pharmacy student are much more lenient but still requires a month's notice.

Student Mentors for Minorities in Pharmacy (SMMP)

Student Mentors for Minorities in Pharmacy (SMMP) is a program designed to prepare minority high school and college students for a career path in pharmacy. Students are paired with a current MUSC College of Pharmacy student who serves as their mentor and guides them through the program, while offering insight and advice from their own personal experiences.

This program provides mentees with a competitive advantage when applying to a graduate-level health professions program through various workshops, seminars, and professional development activities.

SMMP will run from January 2023 to April 2023. Sessions will be offered hybrid (virtual and in-person) once a month on the following Saturdays from 10 AM – 11:30 PM:

  • January 21 - Opening Ceremony
  • February 4
  • March 4
  • April 1
  • April 22 - Closing Ceremony

SMMP is designed for high school and/or undergraduate college URM students. Underrepresented minority is defined university wide as a student who identifies as Hispanic, African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Asian students who are either Filipino, Vietnamese, or SE Asian Non-Vietnames.

SMMP registration has closed for the 2023 program. If you have questions about the program, please contact Madison Riley at rileymad@musc.edu.
