With more than 35,000 cases of coronavirus, Michigan is among the 10 hardest-hit states in America. Most of those are in the southern part of the state, and predictive models suggest that southwest Michigan may experience ongoing community spread into the fall.

Robert Coffey is helping a hospital emergency room in Battle Creek, Mich. cope with the flood of patients. A clinical pharmacist, he works in the Bronson Battle Creek Emergency Department and Level III Trauma Center, part of the Bronson Healthcare System.

The 1987 graduate of the MUSC College of Pharmacy sees patients, clarifies medical histories, and works with local care facilities to support their nurses and suppliers.

“I am involved in antibiotic stewardship, helping with ER protocols, assisting with procedures and doing all I can to support our great team!” he said. “So proud to be an MUSC graduate!”
