The Alpha Iota chapter of Rho Chi recently received the Rho Chi Chapter Project Proposal Award from the national pharmacy honor society. Landon Johnson, chapter president for 2019-20, wrote the proposal, which was the first time the college has submitted one. Due to COVID-19, the proposal implementation has been postponed to the 2020-21 academic year.

“Implementing Education and Training Related to Opioid Overdose and Reversal for Healthcare Students” is designed to:

  • Spread awareness of opioid use to MUSC students.
  • Train them to recognize signs of opioid overdose and treat victims accordingly.
  • Impart empathy from those suffering from opioid use disorder to health care students that may not know how the illness impacts patients’ lives.
  • To support the community by assembling naloxone kits in conjunction with the South Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition.
