The MUSC College of Pharmacy annual Black History Month Seminar will be February 28 at noon in Baruch Auditorium.

This year's keynote speaker will be Daniel Odongo '13, currently serving as pharmacist-in-charge at AHF Pharmacy in Orlando.

At AHF, he has overseen clinical management of HIV patients, revenue cycle management, pharmacy build-out and licensure, automated medication dispensing and virtual inventory management. Since graduation, he also has managed a Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

He earned an MBA from The Citadel concurrently with his Pharm.D. and has put his business acumen to good use, implementing strategies that resulted in annualized revenue turnover from $15 to $ 25 million from baseline thus turning loss- into profit-making business units.

A 2011 recipient of the Earl B. Higgins Award, Odongo once wrote a global health article for The Catalyst in which he described "Harambee" -- a Swahili word meaning "to pull resources together" -- as a spirit that is part of Kenyan culture.

"As a result of the Harambee spirit, Kenyans have always taken great interest in each other's welfare, pulling resources together to educate children within the community, help individuals start businesses and meet medical expenses," he wrote.

He has done a remarkable job of infusing the Harambee spirit into his career. Ninety-six cents of every dollar earned at AHF Pharmacies goes directly to fund AIDS Healthcare Foundation's mission of offering cutting edge medicine and advocacy. AHF's mission also extends to offering free STD testing, free dental care, and affordable housing.

The event is open to the MUSC community and lunch is available for the first 50 registered people. The event is being submitted for Diversity Equity and Inclusion credit.
