She certainly understands multi-discipline work. Kathy Hughes has a master of arts in teaching, a master of arts in French, experience as an athletic director, operations aide, learning specialist, and fourth-grade teacher, and has coached tennis for nearly 20 years.

One might say she is the perfect match for the new position of curriculum coordinator at the MUSC College of Pharmacy. She begins at the college on March 28.

After earning a degree in intercultural studies of business from Wofford College, she earned her master’s in French from Middlebury College in 2003. For the next four years, she worked as French instructor, PE teacher, and sports information director at a Tennessee high school before moving to Massachusetts to Montrose School.

From 2010-2020, she worked as operations aide at the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. She has also worked at Charleston Day School since 2012, serving first as substitute teacher and subsequently as learning specialist from 2013-2016, followed by serving as a math and science teacher for the fourth grade through the present.

She has also participated in a number of national and regional conferences on education, and is a member of the National Science Teaching Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
