It was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the academic honor society Rho Chi, so they needed a powerhouse speaker to commemorate the occasion. They found one.

In fact, they found one just a few months shy of her own anniversary -- June marks Jean Nappi's 50th anniversary of her induction into the Omega chapter as a student. During those 50 years, professor emeritus Jean Nappi contributed so significantly to pharmacy and pharmacy education that she was recently honored with the national 2022 Rho Chi Lecture Award.

Her presentation for the 2022 Rho Chi Lecture Award was titled “Reading Tea Leaves.” Her mother, a native of Scotland, told her how her grandmother used to read tea leaves as a way of seeing the future. The presentation takes a look back at pharmacy’s roots and considers its possible futures.

The Rho Chi Lecture Award is one of the society’s highest distinctions and it recognizes outstanding achievement by distinguished scholars from the fields of the arts, letters, or sciences who have made significant contributions to the health professions.
