Yuri Peterson, associate professor of drug discovery and biomedical sciencs, and recently graduated MUSC Ph.D. student Thomas Benton are collaborating on research that may help cancer patients manage their medication via a new medical device.

They are part of a team of researchers under Dieter Haemmerich, professor at the Darby Children’s Research Institute in MUSC's Department of Pediatrics, and the team has just published an article in the journal Cancers reporting on the success of a new device that removes excess chemotherapy drugs from the blood after treatment. This cleansing could reduce side effects and allow for a safe additional dose if needed.
