It started with a chemistry set and will end with a pharmacy degree. But first, a quick turn as a cinematographer?

Amanda Vickers ’23 began her fourth year with an administrative rotation in the Advancement Office. The rotation gives students an opportunity to explore marketing, communications, fundraising, strategic planning, and leadership, as well as get an unusual insider’s perspective on college administration. Some of the actual tactics, however, are hard to foresee.

For instance, figuring out how to attach an i-phone to a gimble to film an episode of “Hall Talks” with the dean. Or coming up with virtual reality scavenger hunts. Or putting together a sequence of social media posts for next February.

Many visible facets of the college’s face this month bear Vickers’ fingerprints. Meet the person behind the posts!

Hey everyone!

My name is Amanda Vickers, and I am from a small town named Chagrin Falls about 45 minutes outside of Cleveland Ohio.

Prior to attending MUSC I studied at the University of Kentucky, majoring in biology but never got my degree, because I opted to do the three-year program. I knew from an early age I wanted to go into the medical field because I always loved chemistry and biology. When I was younger, I would always ask for those little kid’s chemistry sets and would play with them for hours.

Once high school came around, I was able to join a college program my junior and senior year to take college medical classes half of the day, and my high school classes the other half. Once I got exposed to so many different routes, I found pharmacy.

I quickly learned there was a lot more to pharmacy then many realize and that I could specialize. At that time, I fell in love with pediatrics but more recently also fell in love with emergency medicine.

I am looking forward to the rest of my fourth year, especially my emergency medicine rotation at Cleveland Clinic and my pediatric surgery rotation at MUSC. I’m also eager to see how much I grow and where my interests take me… and if they change!
