The spring 2022 issue of The Distillate is now out! Here is an excerpt.

“BE PART OF THE MOMENT.”

We adopted this catchphrase during the Groundbreaking Ceremony for our new facility and it has been our watchword for each exciting development during its construction. Why? What do we mean by it?

A Moment In Time

A Moment In Time. “Be part of the moment” as in be part of the present, be part of this particular period of time. We’ve wanted you to feel part of each thing that happened, from the moment the board of trustees gave the go-ahead to the passing of a funding bill to the first architectural rendering to the first spade of dirt when breaking ground. We’ll keep you posted on the opportunities to come - don’t miss a moment!

An Event of Moment

An Event of Moment. “Be part of the moment” as in be part of a weighty and historic event. The college has been housed in the Michael P. Araneo Building since it was first constructed in 1940, some four generations ago. Halley’s Comet could have come twice in that swath of time. Opening a new building represents a seismic change for the college and we want you to be able to say you participated in a consequential part of the college’s history.

“Be part of the moment” can mean other things as well. In statistics, a moment is a measure of location that identifies a central position, much as the college will occupy in its new site in the heart of campus. ‘Momentum,’ a word that comes from the same Latin root as ‘moment,’ is a unit that measures the force of motion, and the new facility is illustrative of the college’s positive motion and upward path. A cautionary word from that same Latin root is ‘momentary.’ These moments pass, made more precious by their ephemerality. It’s what gives such resonance to shared moments, which can last longer and have greater dimension.

We want you to share in our moments! You can participate in the excitement of this new building through many outlets, from this issue of The Distillate dedicated to the new facility to regular updates on the college blog, social media engagements, and ongoing alumni events and celebrations. Be part of the moment!
