The college has a new caretaker for its core curriculum.

New assistant dean Shane Ryan takes the wheel on Sept. 5. At least, that is his official start date. Since it is Labor Day, he won't be taking the MUSC College of Pharmacy curriculum out for a spin until Sept. 6.

The position of assistant dean for the curriculum is new for the college, which is embarking on a curriculum revision to be designed and implemented in the next few years. The position was created as part of a staff restructure to provide more support to faculty, including positions of curriculum coordinator and educational technology consultant.

Ryan, currently serving as director of assessment for Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, has extensive experience in leadership and change management as well as curriculum and assessment. He also worked at the University of Florida for several years, including as director of development and delivery for the UF College of Pharmacy.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech, earning a B.S. in psychology, an M.A.Ed. in instructional design and technology, and an expected Ph.D. in IDT this fall.
