Okonkwo appointed to SNPhA national office

Last weekend was a good weekend for MUSC pharmacy student Ifeoma “Ify” Okonkwo ’23.

Attending the 2022 National Convention of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) in Atlanta, she found out she had been awarded the Kroger Endowed Scholarship and that she had been appointed to SNPhA's National Executive Board as the Operation Immunization Chair.  

The National Operation Immunization chair participates in, coordinates, and executes Shot@life meetings, events and opportunities, as well as selecting, leading, and assisting the national operation immunization subcommittee.

Okonkwo, who has already earned an MBA from The Citadel in MUSC’s concurrent degree program, did her pre-pharmacy work at the University of California, Riverside, where she got a degree in chemistry. At the MUSC College of Pharmacy, she has been a highly-visible leader with activities including:

  • President/President Elect- Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA)
  • Treasurer- Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) Beta Chi Chapter
  • Operations Immunization Co-Chair- American Pharmacists Association (APhA-ASP)
  • Dr. Raymond S. Greenberg Presidential Scholar,
  • Mentorship Committee Chair-Black Student Union (BSU)
  • Phi Delta Chi Fraternity Alpha Kappa Chapter (PDC)
  • Student Inter-professional Society
  • Student Minority Mentors in Health
  • Student Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (SSHP)

Earlier this year, she was inducted into the was inducted into the MUSC Student Leadership Society, where she represents the College of Pharmacy enterprise-wide. 

SNPhA is an educational service association of pharmacy students who are concerned about the profession of pharmacy, healthcare issues, and the poor minority representation in these areas. The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of the health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.
