It was like getting a housewarming gift. Walgreens representatives stopped by the MUSC College of Pharmacy on Thursday, March 23, 2023, to get a tour and drop off an $8,000 check.

It was a homecoming of sorts for Marissa Beck '11, clinical specialty pharmacist, community-based specialty with Walgreens, who earned her Pharm.D. in the old Michael P. Araneo Building on Calhoun St. She also earned an MBA from The Citadel through the college’s concurrent degree program.

For Kristen Graves, healthcare supervisor, Walgreens Area 105, Carolina South, the visit was more of an introduction. She will be the college’s new liaison at Walgreens.

The Walgreens pharmacists got a dean's-eye view of the building as Dean Philip Hall took them on a tour and was then happy to accept Walgreens' $8,000 diversity donation.

Walgreens' diversity donation supports:

  • the Walgreens Multilingual Scholarship, which is awarded to a student with an interest in community pharmacy and who is fluent in one or more language in addition to English.
  • the Walgreens Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award, which is awarded to a student who is interested in community pharmacy and also embraces and promotes diversity and inclusion on campus.
