Steve Brown wore many hats during his tenure at the MUSC College of Pharmacy, connecting with students in many ways

The college heard the sad news this week that Steve Brown, former faculty member and administrator, passed away.

A 1974 graduate of the University of North Carolina College of Pharmacy, Brown joined MUSC in 1978 and served as a faculty member, director of student affairs, and assistant dean of student affairs. He also provided students with a resource of contemporary real-word experience as a part-time practicing pharmacist at the Pitt Street Pharmacy.

His faculty appointment was in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (now called Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences). Honored with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, “Big Steve” continued to teach courses like Calculations and Pharmaceutics after returning full-time to the faculty in 2009. He retired in 2015.

His back-to-school parties at The Bunker, as the home he and wife Cindy owned was affectionately called, were both legendary and an effective way to create camaraderie among students, faculty, and staff. The Browns raised two daughters at The Bunker - Mary Adelaide Ramus and Anna Laughlin Brown.

His legacy will live on through the many students whose lives he touched, the countless patients he helped through practice, and the care he brought both to education and to the pharmacy profession.
