Black History Month panelists and moderators

Convened for the college’s annual Black History Month Seminar, the event’s first panel of speakers provided a memorable and insightful conversation for participants.

Marva Williams-Lowe, Katina Richmond and Maurice Lee offered a wealth of experience from different perspectives, answering questions posed from moderators Makenzie Boyd and Zipporah Williams.

  • Maurice Lee: Pharmacists play an important role in underserved populations. Pharmacy is not just a profession, it is a calling. You have to find joy in what you’re doing because you are serving a greater purpose. If you do, the people who benefit the most from that are your patients.
  • Katina Richmond: Everyone travels the road they’re intended to travel so if they’re there, then they belong. Every person has the ability to contribute to any workplace. You are valuable, you bring value, you belong, and you are there because you are supposed to be.
  • Marva Williams-Lowe: Being in a leadership role gives you an opportunity to teach along the way, educating people by showing what you are capable of doing. Then, as you have opportunities, to pave the way for others to come behind you. If we do that, I think we can keep making improvements for people of color in our profession. We stand on the shoulders of some very important people, so it is up to us to keep paying it forward.

The video of the event will soon be available for any unable to attend.
