It helps to have a pharmacy alumna on the town council. Laura Hyatt '90, who has practiced retail pharmacy for 30 years after graduating from the MUSC College of Pharmacy, was elected to Mount Pleasant Town Council in 2019.

On Wednesday, she joined Philip Hall, dean of the MUSC College of Pharmacy, and Will Haynie, mayor of Mount Pleasant, to celebrate Mount Pleasant's official proclamation of October 2023 as Pharmacists Month!

Hyatt went to Wando High School and the College of Charleston before enrolling in the MUSC College of Pharmacy. In her 30 years of retail pharmacy, she was served in multiple places and currently practices at Delta Pharmacy. On the Town Council, she chairs both the Economic Development Committee and the Health, Recreation & Events Committee, and serves on the Flood Resilience Committee, the Planning Committee, and the Water Supply/Resources Committee.

The American Pharmacy Association (APhA), first established American Pharmacists Month in 2004 but its history dates back nearly a century to an October, 1925, when a nation-wide network of radio stations aired programming celebrating the contributions of pharmacists.
