One of Terry Blackmon’s lasting accomplishments can be seen rising behind him; he served as chair of the Building Leadership Committee that helped make a new pharmacy facility possible.

There’s probably no more space on his walls. Terry Blackmon, whose long list of accolades was recently capped with a South Carolina Senate Resolution on May 1, 2024, is going to have to find some room.

The second and final chair of the MUSC College of Pharmacy Building Leadership Committee has now won the MUSC College of Pharmacy’s highest alumni honor, the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

As a recipient of the 2024 MUSC College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumnus Award, Terry Blackmon is one of the college's honorees at MUSC's Alumni Awards Dinner later this month. He will be joined by fellow Distinguished Alumnus Award winner Tim Vanderveen, '77, and Emerging Leader Award winner Shelby Kolo, '19.

Blackmon has been a mainstay of South Carolina pharmacy for many years, serving in multiple leadership roles including as chair of the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy and president of both the South Carolina Pharmacy Association and the MUSC Pharmacy Alumni Association.

"Terry Blackmon has unselfishly devoted his career to serving the profession of pharmacy in many ways," said Nick Tomlinson, RPh, who is a former classmate and friend. "Terry exemplifies the meaning of a true champion for his profession."

Blackmon has served as president/owner of The Medicine Cabinet, an independent pharmacy located in Lake City, S.C., since 2013. He joined the pharmacy in 1986 and, in 2002, became co-owner with Dan Bushardt; when Bushardt retired in 2013, Blackmon became sole president/owner.

Daughter Erin Blackmon, who completed the MUSC pharmacy/Citadel concurrent Pharm.D./MBA program in 2010, began her career in chain retail pharmacies before joining Terry Blackmon at The Medicine Cabinet in 2017.

Terry Blackmon’s impact on the pharmacy community has resulted in numerous accolades.  In 2017, he was the honored recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia for the state of South Carolina, the most widely recognized international symbol for the pharmacy profession and one of the profession's most prestigious awards.  In 2015, he was named Pharmacist of the Year by the South Carolina Pharmacy Association.
