They did years of pre-pharmacy work. They went through a complex application process. Some of them have been dreaming about this career since they were kids.

And now, on August 15, 2025, they will slip on the symbol showing that they’ve turned that anticipation into actuality – the pharmacist’s white coat.

At the MUSC College of Pharmacy, each class is welcomed to the MUSC pharmacy family through a week-long in-person Orientation that culminates in the White Coat Ceremony. The 2025 White Coat Ceremony will be Friday, August 15, 2025, starting at 3 p.m. in Room 110 of the Drug Discovery Building on the MUSC campus.

The ceremony features a welcome from the dean, Philip Hall, introductions to all the faculty, and a keynote address by alumnus Andrew Fariello, ’95, vice president of global medical affairs and head of medical excellence oncology for AstraZeneca.

Incoming students process in under the direction of faculty member Anthony DeClue, ‘’16, who will serve as faculty advisor to the Class of 2029. After the keynote, he will take the podium to explain the symbolism of the white coat. Micayla Tripp, college of pharmacy vice president on the University Honor Council, will speak about the Code of Ethics to the new students, who will then sign the professional pledge before being presented with their official white coat in front of their friends and family. The newly-coated class will then recite the Pledge of Professionalism.

After the recessional, a reception will be held for the students and their families in the lobby of the new college of pharmacy building.
