Tenny Moss ’72, Sarah Braga ’86 ’90, and William Wynn ’97 were all honored by the South Carolina Pharmacy Association (SCPhA) with awards that would have been presented during the 2020 SCPhA Annual Convention. The convention was canceled this year due to COVID-19 concerns.

The SCPhA’s highest honor is the Bowl of Hygeia, which is presented to someone well known throughout the state for their contributions to the profession through volunteerism within pharmacy, involvement in SCPhA activities, and encouragement of professional development of young pharmacists.

R. T. “Tenny” Moss retired in 2016 after practicing pharmacy for 44 years in Florence, S.C.., mostly as the independent owner of Moss Pharmacy and Nutrition Center and Moss Compounding Pharmacy. In a feature story in SC Now Morning News, he noted that he started his own business after recognizing the truth in a comment from MUSC College of Pharmacy dean emeritus William Golod – that some students would be fine with working for other people and some would want to go their own way. He was one of the latter, developing into a prominent Florence businessman and community leader.

Sarah Braga ’86 ’90 was honored with the Ken Couch Mentor Award, reflecting her work in promoting and encouraging students or pharmacists to attain leadership positions within pharmacy through her example as a role model, mentor, and preceptor.

William Wynn ’97 was awarded Pharmacist of the Year for his involvement in state and national government/legislative affairs as well as community service organizations, and for influencing the profession of pharmacy to become a stronger profession.

The full slate of award winners is:

  • Student Pharmacist of the Year: Morgan Grier
  • Excellence in Innovation: Amelia Milejczak
  • Distinguished Young Pharmacist: Taylor Meyers
  • Bowl of Hygeia: Tenny Moss ’72
