Kristy Brittain's drug expertise has not gone unnoticed by Uncle Sam. The associate professor of clinical pharmacy and outcome science in the College of Pharmacy was recently appointed to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee (NDAC) for the next four year cycle!

In addition to representing MUSC in a high-profile, national position, she'll be giving input into some critical decision-making about non-prescription drugs. The Committee evaluates and advises the Commissioner of Food and Drugs on:

  • safety and effectiveness of OTC drugs and FDA-regulated products
  • promulgation of monographs or approval of new applications
  • prescription and non-prescription drug status

"This kind of national service gives our outstanding faculty an opportunity to make a significant difference in the health care system itself," said Philip D. Hall, dean of MUSC College of Pharmacy. "It's a great way for us to share the insight and experience of our faculty and show our peers the caliber of our college. Dr. Brittain is highly deserving of this recognition and will be an excellent representative of MUSC."
