The first iteration of "Shirley's Angels" was in 2021.

Inspired by the iconic pose that closed the credits of the 1970s hit television show "Charlie's Angels," the MUSC College of Pharmacy students competing for the South Carolina Pharmacy Association Self-Care Bowl struck the pose around faculty member and team coach David Shirley. It feels like a tradition was born.

A tradition of winning the SCPhA Self-Care Bowl, at least. The 2021 team won the bowl. The 2023 version of "Shirley's Angels" starred team members Charlie Worrall, Kyrle Luth, Tania Thomas, and Andrew Bartle followed suit, winning the pharmacy knowledge trivia-style competition during the SCPhA Annual Meeting held June 22-25, 2023 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C.

They'll have to work a little on the pose (see below).

It set the stage for a night of honors for the MUSC pharmacy family. Awards included:

  • Kristy Brittain: Pharmacist of the Year
  • David Shirley: Kenneth R. Couch Distinguished Mentor Award
  • Ron Guida: SCPhA Ralph M. Wilkie Distinguished Lifetime Service Award
  • Brian Clark: Outgoing President Award

Brittain and Shirley are both faculty members in the MUSC College of Pharmacy Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcome Science, while Guida and Clark are both MUSC pharmacy alumni. In addition to serving as president of the SCPhA this past year, Clark was recently named CEO of the statewide pharmacy association.
