Taken at the flood - new academic program coordinator Rachel Page started the same week Hurricane Debby hit.

Rachel Page started this week with a Trial by Flood (MUSC's version of a trial by fire) and weathered the storm like an old pro. Since she's a Summerville native, these little Lowcountry squalls are nothing new.

Even if they were, she is not easily rattled. The college's new academic program coordinator has dealt with plenty of pressure on the court as a Summerville High School Hall of Fame athlete (basketball, softball, and all-state volleyball), Presbyterian College scholarship athlete (volleyball and softball), and Summerville High School head volleyball coach.

She is also home off the court, with more than 20 years’ experience in administration and education. When she graduated from Presbyterian with a degree in business administration, she worked first for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and then moved to Newington Elementary School/Summerville High School, where she was systems operator and registrar.

The decorated athlete continued to collect hardware on the sidelines as a three-time Classified Employee of the Year (2013, 2017, 2021) and two-time Region Coach of the Year (2021, 2022). Last year she also coached the AAAAA South All-Star Volleyball Team.

“Her background in education and administration well prepare her for helping us deliver an outstanding academic program,” said Philip Hall, dean of MUSC College of Pharmacy. “And since she is a former star athlete and successful coach, we also expect she’ll bring a little fire and charisma!”

Page’s immersion into higher education doesn’t stop at the office. She and her husband Brad Page have two daughters: Reese, starting her second year at UNC-Charlotte, and Drew, a senior at Summerville High School who has committed to Florida Southern College… to play volleyball!
