Pharmacist superhero video reaches finals in national competition

It’s time to open a little space at the Avengers Mansion. Pack your bags, Hawkeye - there are some new superheroes in town.

Iron Pill. Captain Compound. Infection Inquisitor. Professor Rx.

These are the legendary heroes featured in a new video by the MUSC chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). The chapter was notified last week that its video had been selected as a finalist in the Best Overall category in the APhA-ASP PharmFlix Video Contest.

The video will be showcased at the APhA 2025 Annual Meeting & Exposition, where each chapter will vote for the best video in each category (Best Overall, Most Humorous, Most Inspirational). The winners will be announced at the APhA-ASP Awards Celebration on March 22, 2025.

MUSC’s video was directed by Madison Grizzle and narrated by Kyrle Luth. The superheroes included:

Iron Pill (Chance Yurco)

Captain Compound (Grizzle)
With a vast arsenal of customized formulations, Captain Compound can craft precise medicines, tailored to any patient’s needs!

Infection Inquisitor (Julia Hormann)
With unparalleled knowledge of complex diseases, and the ability to manage specialized treatments!

Professor Rx (Kiara Hallows)
The academia pharmacist hero is molding the next generation of pharmacy heroes and shaping the future of health care!

The PharmFlix Video Contest was launched in 2009 as a way for student pharmacists to showcase their professionalism while also expressing their creativity by creating short public service announcements (PSA). PSAs can be of various genres including, but not limited to, documentaries, parodies of pop-culture, commercials, music videos, and movie trailers.

The 2024 PharmFlix theme “Each of us, For all of us” focuses on student pharmacists coming together to create a community that emphasizes collaboration, camaraderie, and compassion to positively impact the pharmacy profession.

MUSC’s video illustrates several of the distinctive career pathways available in pharmacy, using mock-serious humor to educate while entertaining.
