South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists 2025 Pharmacist of the Year Jason Haney with Philip Hall, dean of the MUSC College of Pharmacy, and Kathy Chessman, professor and chair of clinical pharmacy and outcomes sciences.

Kathy Chessman had to get pretty comfortable on the stage. The professor and chair of clinical pharmacy and outcomes sciences (CPOS) at the MUSC College of Pharmacy found herself accepting multiple awards on behalf of her faculty and students.

MUSC pharmacy sent a good-sized delegation to the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP) Annual Meeting, held March 6-7, 2025 in Hilton Head, S.C., but, as fate would have it, most of the night’s award winners were a) from MUSC and b) unable to attend.

Chessman had her work cut out for her. MUSC pharmacy honors included:

  • Jason Haney – SCSHP Pharmacist of the Year
  • Amelia Pettigrew, Noah Burkett, and Tye Fobbs – Clinical Pharmacy Challenge champions (third year in a row)
  • MUSC-SSHP – SCSHP Outstanding Chapter of the Year (second year in a row)
  • Zipporah Williams – SCSHP Outstanding Student of the Year (second year in a row)
  • Melisa Davis – SCSHP scholarship recipient
  • Tania Thomas and Tara Mohit – incoming Junior Board Members

The SCSHP 2025 Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for industry leaders, professionals, and innovators to come together to share knowledge, network, and shape the future of healthcare. In addition to MUSC’s award winners, CPOS faculty member Emmeline Tran and alumna Lauren Freeman spoke on "Prescriptions for Progress: Key Research that Shaped Pharmacy Practice in 2024."
