Palmira Khalil ’09 grew up around medications. Her mother had lupus, and made sure her daughter understood what prescriptions were for so she wouldn’t think they were candy. Khalil never forgot the kindness and availability of the pharmacists who provided her mother’s care.

Her childhood planted a seed that developed into the dream of becoming a pharmacist herself. Today, the MUSC pharmacy alumna is a clinical pharmacist for CVS (Goose Creek, S.C.), is creating future pharmacy dreams in patients of her own, and is being recognized nationally for her outstanding service.

In October, free prescription savings service SingleCare released its Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards and Khalil was one of 15 pharmacists selected nationwide.

Award winners were determined based on an evaluation by SingleCare’s editorial board, including past Best of the Best pharmacy winners. Thousands of nominations were received for the 2020 awards and in total, 15 award winners were recognized, with five receiving honorable mentions.

The awards honor exceptional pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacies in communities across the U.S., recognizing excellence in service, education, and savings.

“It’s really rewarding just helping people take better care of themselves and understand why they’re on medication,” she said in the award announcement profile. “It’s a nice surprise to be honored by this award, and by the CVS Paragon Award I received previously. It means a lot that my customers and patients recognize that I care, and wanted to throw my name in the ring to win. It’s a much-needed highlight of a challenging year. Helping people is the biggest thing for me.”
