In honor of National Pharmacists Month, the Waring Historical Library put together a pop-up exhibit, Prescriptions, Pills, Poisons, Oh My! that was displayed in the Colbert Education Center Lobby on Thursday, October 26.

From handwritten prescription slips from the 1800s to poison bottles, the exhibit showcased items from Waring's collection related to the history of pharmacies in South Carolina. There was also free treats and merchandise for visitors.

The college enjoys a rich partnership with the Waring Historical Library. Waring's Brooke Fox, university archivist, oversaw the transfer of MUSC College of Pharmacy Museum to either the Waring or digital archives, and created a new exhibit space leading into the dean's suite in the new pharmacy facility. Waring staff plan to rotate displays in the space, which will be open to all foot traffic.

Several of Waring's on-line exhibits and collections feature pharmacy and/or members of MUSC pharmacy family.

"Pharmacy has such a long and fascinating history," said Philip Hall, dean of the MUSC College of Pharmacy. "We're very appreciative of the knowledge and expertise of our faculty and faculty emeriti, who can share it with our students, and our friends at the Waring Historical Library, who can share it with the public. Many thanks to Brooke Fox, Tabitha Samuel, and Anna Marie Schuldt for their support!"
