The MUSC College of Pharmacy just welcomed one of MUSC’s most prominent leaders into its pharmacy leadership society.

Lisa K. Saladin, MUSC’s executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, was inducted into MUSC’s pharmacy leadership society Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) on October 3, 2023.

“Dr. Saladin has been an inspiring leader for all of MUSC and especially for the College of Pharmacy,” said Philip D. Hall, dean of the college. “Her advocacy and steady hand guided MUSC’s largest ever investment in education, which included the building we now enjoy. Our students were delighted to honor her and hear her wisdom first-hand.”

The provost spoke to the MUSC PLS chapter about “Leadership Skills for the 21st Century,” highlighting critical leadership skills and emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in medical rehabilitation (PT) and a Master of Science in anatomy (neuroscience) from the University of Manitoba in Canada and a doctoral degree in physical therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Her clinical expertise is in the area of physical therapy for individuals with neurological disorders and her research interests are focused on the areas of racial and gender disparities in access to care, community-based service learning and motor control and treatment outcomes for individuals with neurological disorders.

In 2008, she was recognized nationally for her teaching excellence with the receipt of the Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching from the American Physical Therapy Association. She joined MUSC as a faculty member, rising to become dean of the College of Health Professions before becoming provost in 2017 after serving as interim since 2016.
