Rho Chi president Haley King '25 and dean Philip Hall hold Proposal Award certificate

The Alpha Iota chapter of the Rho Chi Society, pharmacy's honor society, was selected to receive the 2023 Summer Rho Chi Chapter Project Proposal Award! The national office of Rho Chi sent the award certificate, along with a $500 award check, earlier this week.

"The Impact of Pharmacy Student Participation in Medication Therapy Management on Overall Performance and Confidence Levels," was submitted by Alpha Iota chapter president Haley King '25.

The college offers an elective in Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and the College of Pharmacy operates an MTM Center with dedicated space in pharmacy's new facility.

The project will utilize student volunteers who will work in the MTM clinic weekly after they have undergone an intensive training program by a certified MTM pharmacist or are progressing through the semester long MTM elective. These volunteers will include both Rho Chi Alpha Iota members, and any other pharmacy students interested in becoming involved.

“This is a great opportunity for students to build upon what they’re learning in the classroom,” said King. “Being able to apply that didactic knowledge to actual patients will help their understanding of the material as they’re progressing through pharmacy school, while at the same time providing a much-need service to optimize patient care.”

The project will focus on the student’s perspective on their own growth through the program and the data metrics collected from the encounters themselves, allowing Rho Chi to track performance growth as students become more comfortable with MTM through both subjective and objective means.
